Happy New Year!
Can you believe it? Christmas is over and we have already taken the plunge into 2016.
2015 was a big year here in the Bugsey Bee house and I expect that 2016 will be our busiest and craziest yet. I’ve been using the Christmas break to take stock of the past year and prepare for someone of the lifestyle changes 2016 has in store for us.
One of the things that has been playing on my mind lately has been the amount of waste we seem to produce as a family. We have always tried to be conscious of making eco-friendly choices but it doesn’t seem to matter what we do our rubbish bin is always cluttered with plastic bags, cardboard boxes and broken toys. I’m not sure what it is that triggered it but a few weeks back I was thinking about Mr 3 beginning kindy and what that would mean, school bags, books, lunch boxes etc, when I became fixated on cling film and snap lock bags and then it was my disposable coffee cups, paper towels and plastic water bottles. And all of a sudden there my 2 boys were, 20 years from not surrounded by a sea of plastic waste that I had created for them.
I think up until now I have brushed aside the thought of a waste free life because it seems so unattainable and to be honest it is. I really admire those people who are 100% plastic free, use family cloth and menstrual cups but to be honest for 90% off us that lifestyle just doesn’t mesh. But what I realized is that it only takes us all to choose 1 or 2 things to make a big difference to the world we grow up in.
So in 2016 my goal is to take the steps to live a green a life, for me, for the environment and for my kids. I’m not going to start out trying to do it all at once because I know for me it just won’t work. Instead I want to invite you all along for a year journey towards a greener life. They say it takes 14 days to create a new habit so every 14 days I am going to introduce a new greener habit. I’d love it if you followed along with all of my triumphs and failures ( and boy am I sure there will be failures) and if you want join in that would be wonderful but if all you can manage is 1 or 2 green habits then that is also fantastic. Imagine if we all just chose 1 new, green habit this year!
If you would like to follow along you can sign-up to our email here. Every fortnight I will send you an email letting you know what I will be focusing on for the next 2 weeks as well as some tips on how you can do the same.
I can’t wait! xx
